Tim Hardaway: Froot Loop

But not that kind of fruit because Tim Hardaway hates gay people. Says he doesn't believe in them. Like what, gay people are the Lock Ness Monster or something?

“You know, I hate gay people, so I let it be known. I don’t like gay people and I don’t like to be around gay people,” he said while a guest on Sports Talk 790 The Ticket. “I’m homophobic. I don’t like it. It shouldn’t be in the world or in the United States."

Hardaway hates gay people so much, he broke up with his boyfriend when he found out that he was gay. (Alright, that was taken from a Chappelle Show bit, but had to be done.)

The family of Jackie Robinson must be thrilled to read remarks such as this. You would hope that somebody who has probably faced racism and bigotry in his life would be a little bit more tolerant. An NBA player who directly benefited from those who (like Robinson, Woody Strode and Kenny Washington) crossed the color line would show be a little more open minded. Instead, Hardaway sounds like many of those players who refused to play with Robinson. Take the word "gay" in Hardaway's comments and replace it with "black." How would Hardaway feel if an NBA representative said that?

Of course, there will be those who believe that homosexuality is a choice. And if you really believe that, try to pin-point the exact point in your life when you chose to be heterosexual.

No, Hardaway is just an ignorant son of a female dog, and hopefully he will blacklisted from society like those who have made bigoted remarks. What Hardaway said was about 100 times worse than what Michael Richards said on the Comedy Store stage because Hardaway was composed and was extremely conscious of what he was saying. Hardaway should be shunned and ridiculed accordingly.

Lets bash TH for not being afraid to say what he feels. I am sure a lot of others feel the same way. But Tim is black so he can get away with this.

I have no problem with him having the right to say what he feels. He should be allowed to say it. I'm just glad we get to see him for the bigoted a-hole that he is. And hopefully sponsors and league personnel see this, too, and never invite him to ever participate in the NBA again.

he doesn't believe in gay people the way that carl everett doesn't believe in dinosaurs.

wow, those two, with that same line of thinking, may be perfect for one another. if hardaway's down, that is.

well, that's nice. good one, fuhrer hardaway. we should probably make sure he doesn't buy any box cars and "shower" rooms.

Hard to believe more pro athletes don't come out of the closet, especially during their playing days . . .

It's one thing to say you disagree with homosexuality but to say you hate gay people is really going over the line. Not to mention really stupid. If John Rocker got ostracized for what he did let's not give this dumbass a pass either.

Show me an avowed hetero who can't shut up about how much he hates gays, and I'll show you a guy who's had an encounter with The Dick and enjoyed himself.

*cough* *cough* Ted Haggard *cough* *cough*

Adam's right. Bigots like Hardaway (hmmm, wonder if he was ever teased about that name) should speak their minds so the rest of us know who they are.

Wow, NFLADAM, you're a raging jackass. Another ignorant white boy equating the struggle of black people with the struggle of homosexuals, they are so different that it's not funny. Why do white people feel that this is the same thing? if you needed to you could hide the fact that you were homosexual, but there is no hiding your skin color. I'll bet you that if you brought this comparison up to Jackie Robinsons family they'd spit in your ignorant face. Fuckin dumbass.

Anyone wanna bet that "shut up white boy" is white himself?

This person obviously knows nothing about Jackie Robinson or his legacy.

Either that, or he's a compulsive gambler whose willing to make any bet regardless of the odds against him.

Conrad Bain just hit the nail on the head

I agree with everything Tim Hardaway said.

You all are a bunch of faggots.

As a player, it is very distracting when you know that one of the other players on the field is a homosexual.

At least we now know what kind of idiot Tim Hardaway is now. And I don't think that he was trying to compare black people and gay people... but gays are now being persecuted as blacks were during the MLK Jr. days. Opinions on gays or blacks aside, the comparison is fair in that aspect. Personally, I think that this post is an incredible response to this event (my kudos man) and completely agree with what Commissioner Stern's decision today. This behavior can't be tolerated by an organization that does so much good in the world. It can't be condoned by anyone but bigots and morons.

Great comments, you guys. It was a joy to read through these.

BTW, did anybody else see the thing that Sports By Brooks dug up from Outsports? Hardaway was voted into the Top 10 most likely gay NBA players back in 2003.

Is this the same NFL Adam that ridicules Michael Strahan and insinuates he is gay just to be mean.

Then you stand up for gays like this?

Which is it, if being gay is cool and ok in your book why bash MS for it?

Don't forget Jason Sehorn, too.

Oh god, THN is actually starting to do some good and foster a real discussion about issues that matter. I guess it is time to start checking out what the losers in the column to the left are saying. Your former faithful reader...

He could have definitely chosen his words better. I also think, however, that when you ask every single NBA player about it, you're going to get one who reacts that way. ESPN has way over-played this whole thing, but I guess it makes sense considering it's their book they are trying to promote.

The smarmy, sanctimonious, over-reaction to this is laughable. Tim Hardaway is a pro athlete, not a role model, not a person seeking public office. Do you really give a fuck what he thinks or says about gay people? Is Tim Hardaway's opinion about gay people more detrimental to the image of a professional sports league than the behavior of a Ron Artest, Latrell SPreewell, J.R. Rider, Rasheed Wallace, or Allen Iverson? Just because Tim Hardaway is stupid enough to say what he believes while on the record is no worse than the vast majority of NBA players that would say the same off the record. Tim Hardaway's opinion about anything is about as important as Penny Hardaway's opinion about hitting his girlfriend.

honestly, the thing that has shocked me the most isn't that hardaway said that he said. like i give a fuck what some dumb ass basketball player thinks about me. the amazing thing is all the people on message boards who are defending the guy. i thought we were a little farther along then we apparently are. i mean, haven't these people watched Will and Grace?!?!

NFL Adam said...

I'm still a little stunned that people dismiss what Hardaway said. Like you don't feel there are MLB players who feel the same way as John Rocker? Yet, nobody applauded him for his honestly and he was quickly banished from the game.

Oh God, between Hardaway and Rocker, they aren't doing us fellow lefties much good.
